ILoveSarawakBot
What it fetches, what it refuses to fetch, and how to make it stop.
We run a small editorial bot that reads news feeds to work out what is being covered in Sarawak on a given day. It identifies itself as:
ILoveSarawakBot/1.0 (+https://www.ilovesarawak.my/bot; editorial topic monitoring)
What it fetches
Public RSS feeds only, once a day, at the crawl delay each publisher asks for in their robots.txt. From each feed item it keeps four fields: the headline, the link, the feed summary and the timestamp. Currently:
- Sarawak Daily — 5s delay
- Borneo Post — 60s delay
What it never fetches
It does not fetch article pages from these publishers. It does not read content:encoded, which is where a WordPress feed carries the full article body. It does not store, summarise, republish or train on anyone’s article text, and no competitor’s words are ever passed to a language model by us.
Headlines tell us a story exists. Everything we then publish about it is written from primary sources — government releases, official statistics, agency statements — which we fetch ourselves and cite by name and link at the foot of every article. Where a story is worth covering and we cannot source it independently, we do not cover it.
Editorial review
Nothing the bot writes is published automatically. Every draft is read and approved by an editor before it appears on this site. See our editorial standards.
Opting out
Disallow ILoveSarawakBot in your robots.txt and we will stop, or write to us and we will remove your feed the same day. You do not need to give a reason.
