The next great landmark of Kuching is rising over the Sarawak River right now. The Sejingkat Bridge — a 1.28-kilometre cable-stayed crossing between Sejingkat and the Tanjung Bako side — will carry the new coastal road over the river on spans of 200, 400 and 200 metres, hung from two diamond-shaped pylons soaring 94 metres above the deck. When it opens, it will be the most dramatic river crossing in Sarawak.
The RM366-million bridge is a keystone of the Second Kuching–Samarahan Trunk Road and the wider coastal road network, stitching the city directly toward Bako and the eastern shore. Construction has weathered delays — completion is currently expected in the course of 2026. This page will be updated the moment it opens; until then, its little sibling, the Datuk Amar Juma'ani Bridge at Satok, is already lighting up Kuching's evenings.
