Tua Pek Kong is Sibu's oldest Chinese temple and the anchor of its waterfront, standing where the town meets the Rejang. The deity it is dedicated to is the one you meet all along the Borneo and Straits coasts — the patron of Chinese settlers, honoured wherever the community put down roots.
The seven-storey pagoda beside it was added later and is the reason most visitors climb. Each tier opens a little further onto the river, and the top gives the clearest sense you can get of the Rejang's scale — Malaysia's longest river, working past a town built entirely on its trade.
