Barely half an hour from Kuching, Kubah is the city's rainforest next door — a sandstone ridge cloaked in one of the richest palm floras on Earth. Trails lead to a bathing waterfall, up Mount Serapi's summit road for views over the peninsula, and — after dark — to the park's star attraction: a frog pond alive with dozens of species, one of the best amphibian-watching sites in Borneo.

On Kubah's flank sits Matang Wildlife Centre, where rescued orangutans, sun bears and hornbills are rehabilitated — an easy add-on to a Kubah day.

Highlights

  • The famous frog pond — guided night walks reveal Borneo's amphibians at their best
  • The Waterfall Trail's natural bathing pool
  • Mount Serapi summit road with views to the sea
  • Matang Wildlife Centre next door

Good to know

  • Standard Sarawak national-park fees apply
  • For the frogs, you need to be there after dark — arrange a night entry or guided frog walk ahead
  • Leeches are part of the deal after rain; socks over trousers works wonders

Getting there

Kubah's HQ is about 30–40 minutes' drive west of Kuching via Matang — an easy Grab or taxi ride, and one of the simplest national-park day trips in Sarawak.
