Kuching Wetlands National Park is a saltwater mangrove system on the estuaries of the Sibu Laut and Salak rivers, west of Mount Santubong. It is a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance, and unlike most of Sarawak's parks it has no trails — the park is water, and it is visited by boat.
The draw is the wildlife. Irrawaddy dolphins work the estuary mouth, and finless porpoises and Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins are seen too. Proboscis monkeys feed in the mangroves at the edges, estuarine crocodiles live here, and after dark the riverside trees fill with fireflies. The standard visit is an afternoon-into-evening cruise out of Santubong that takes in dolphins on the falling light and fireflies on the way back.
