Taman Tumbina takes its name from tumbuhan and binatang — plants and animals — which is a fair description of what it is. Laid out on a hillside on the edge of Bintulu, it combines a small zoo, a hornbill aviary, a butterfly garden and planted botanical sections with patches of retained forest and walking paths.
The hornbills are the point of pride, which is fitting in a state that calls itself the Land of the Hornbills. It is Bintulu's principal family attraction, and for a traveller passing through on the way between Sibu and Miri it is the most rewarding way to spend a couple of hours in town, along with the beach at Tanjung Batu next door.
