Tanjung Batu Beach

Bintulu

Bintulu's seaside esplanade — casuarina shade, sunset walks and the town's favourite stretch of sand.

Tanjung Batu is Bintulu's town beach — a long, casuarina-lined shore on the edge of the city where locals come to jog the esplanade, fly kites, and watch the sun drop into the South China Sea. Rocky outcrops (the 'batu' of the name) punctuate the sand and give the beach its character.

It pairs naturally with the neighbouring Taman Tumbina park on the hillside above — a small botanical-and-wildlife garden — making an easy, family-friendly half day on Bintulu's coast.

Highlights

  • Bintulu's most popular sunset and esplanade walk
  • Shaded picnic spots under old casuarinas
  • The rocky headlands that give the beach its name
  • Taman Tumbina park right next door

Good to know

  • Busiest at weekends and late afternoons; mornings are quiet
  • Swim with care — currents can be strong on this open coast
  • Food stalls cluster near the esplanade in the evenings

Getting there

The beach is essentially in town — about ten minutes from central Bintulu by car or ride-hailing, with parking along the esplanade. Bintulu itself is served by daily flights and the coastal trunk road.
